The Parents Committee would like to welcome the new board members to our staff. Vice President Tim Diener, Staff Liaison Joyce Yager, Board member KayAnne Perez & Building Contractor Jorge Perez. Joyce & I would also like to thank the new parents that have joined us. We love to see new faces and welcome your help and support so that we can help to make this the best Sea Cadet Unit Ever ! Carpooling – There has not been much of a response to the parent carpool link on the website. We would need more parents interested in participating to be successful. As I’m sure all of you are aware, situations do arise when cadets do not have a ride and we would hate to have a cadet miss a drill because of this. Please sign up if you have room and can provide a ride at http://www.flseacadets.org/parents111.htm. Fundraising – Bricks – It was decided that we would offer 2 different sizes for sale (4” x 6” and 8” x 8”) but would stick with one color/design (painted with black lettering). Donation levels would be $50. for the 4 x 6 and $100. for the 8 x 8. There will be a limited number of characters. A sample brick is available to be seen at the unit or can be viewed on the website www.bricksrus.com. Since the area to be paved is so large, it was decided that we would start with the area directly in front of the door. Amy Welker is working with Home Depot to attain filler bricks needed for the project and will update me on when we can get started with them. We will install the filler bricks and are currently starting to take orders for the fundraising bricks. Yard Sale – Suggestions have been made to have a yard sale either at the HQ building or possibly at the Swap Shop. We will be looking for donations of garage sale items to sell as a fundraiser for the Sea Cadets. Please email me if you would like to take responsibility for this fundraiser. Barbeque – We discussed a parent sponsored BBQ. After considering many locations, John Meister is going to check into getting a pavilion donated at Snider Park. This will most likely be the location for our BBQ. We decided that we would sell tickets & ask parents to bring a dish to pass. We are suggesting a cost of $3 per person (open to suggestions). The proposed date range is mid-January. We will discuss this more on next meeting and make decisions. We also need a parent to take responsibility for this event. Tsirts – Please contact Jorge Perez to obtain parent committee T-Shirts & Spruance Division bumper stickers. The Tshirts are important because we like to wear them to all Spruance Division events like parades, fundraisers, etc. New Ideas – John Meister suggested a possible detail of cadets to work events at the war memorial auditorium as a fundraiser/recruiting event. Henry Nothdurft suggested having a detail of cadets/parents work at the Tower shops/Friday night car show. We will discuss more next month. Antique Car Show – Jan Meister will have a booth at the Antique Car Show. We will use this event as a fundraiser/Recruiting event. She will need 1 cadet (preferably female) in Dungarees to assist Sarah Meister. Also needed will be Sea Cadet brochures, brick brochures, etc. This event will be on Dec. 4th. Parent Newsletter – We will be creating a monthly newsletter that will contain important dates for the upcoming month, important numbers and tips. A short paragraph about the previous months Cadet of the month. We need your suggestions of what you would like to see in the newsletter. Holiday Party – This year the parents committee is responsible for the Annual Holiday Party. We want to make this one the best yet. We are happy to welcome all of our new parents and hope that their unique talents can be used to better our holiday party. Lynn Drucker is trying to get a rock wall. Amy Welker is working on a bounce house and I’m sure she will come up with others as well. Hugh Kirkpatrick also is trying to get a magician. Please forward your suggestions and we will get to work on it. Storage shed cleanup – We need volunteers to help clean out the Storage shed in back of the building. The Meisters are trying to get a dumpster donated for a weekend so that we can get rid of everything from the shed that is trash. A date will be provided when the dumpster is secured. New Uniform Storage Room - We would all like to thank Jorge Perez & Henry Nothdurft for their hard work in building this new room that we needed for storage of our uniforms as Team Spruance continues to grow. Building Needs: Re-finish floors Replace the air conditioner in ward room clean out refrigerators Install new mailbox Install Spot light in front of building Install Suggestion box near administration Acquire a new awning for entrance. If anyone knows someone in this line of work, please ask about donations of awning or installation. |
