U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Spruance Division & Radford Training Ship Minutes of the Meeting Saturday, 12 June 2004

Parents in Attendance: Jeff & Joyce Yager, Elaine Nasta, Jorge & Kayanne Perez, Claudia Vance, Dean & Denise Merten, Amy Welker, Ivy Francis, Dina Ernst, Lynn Drucker. All other fundraising activities will be picked up again when we return from the summer break. Fundraisers – Dean Merton has been working with Calder Racetrack for future fundraising possibilities, and is expecting a donation of $500. and possibly a rear projection television for the Unit. Recruit Training – We are looking into the possibility of renting a 12 passenger van for the June 20 Sea Cadet Recruit Training. INST Echavez has volunteered to drive but will need another adult to ride along. We would leave the Unit early morning on the 20th and return that same afternoon. Parents will need to provide transportation for the return on July 3rd. Please let us know if you can volunteer. Since we only have a few League Cadets attending Recruit Training this summer, it will be the parent’s responsibility to provide transportation. NEW IDEAS FOR NEXT SEASON… League Cadet / Sea Cadet of the Month - We are looking at the idea of a point system for attendance, PT, etc. The point system will be determined by LCDR Starr and will be posted on a board in the Unit. Training Ideas – We would like suggestions for new training ideas. Mrs. Welker is working with a contact at the YMCA for a program where the Cadets would earn a Lifeguard, CPR, First-Aid Certificate. This would take place over the summer months or possibly during Winter Break. We will also be working more with the Ft. Lauderdale Coast Guard to arrange more training opportunities. Any training ideas or suggestions should be directed to Jeff Yager at JeffYager@myacc.net Parent Meetings – This is our last parent meeting this season, but we will have monthly meetings again beginning in August, after the start of the new school year. We will try to make the regular meetings on the 3rd Saturday of each month, but will post the dates on the website at least 2 weeks in advance. |
