From: LCDR Alan Starr, Commanding Officer,
Team Spruance To: All Hands Subject: Monthly Report VIEW FROM THE BRIDGEMARCH 2005 The Spruance Division Staff worked feverishly to pull together all of the final numbers and statistics, in preparation for our Annual Administrative Inspection. LTJG Leibowitz spent may creative hours developing a working document that will calculate and update Cadet Status and flag when a Cadet is qualified for Advancement, and track complete progress, throughout their Sea Cadet career. Bravo Zulu on this tremendous accomplishment! Our new Regional Director LCDR Richard Waddell and his Wife LT Edith Waddell made the trip down from Palm Bay to conduct our Admin Inspection. They both had very favorable comments on our Cadets, our wonderful facility, and our record keeping. The Cadets were treated to a pizza party, following the Inspection, as recognition for their efforts. We were shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of LT Edith Waddell days after their visit. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Waddell family. The US Naval Sea Cadet Corps has experienced a tragic loss. Our Personnel Inspection was conducted by LCDR Michael Stewart, USCG, the Executive Officer of the US Coast Guard Medium Endurance Cutter, Valiant. The Cadets worked very hard to prepare their Uniforms, shine their shoes, and learn the 11 General Orders of a Sentry. LCDR Stewart was very impressed with the positive, “can do” attitude of the Cadets, and our Colors Ceremony. We had several guests from the Navy League, including our Council President Joyce Madzinski, who rearranged her schedule to attend. Congratulations to Seaman Jonathan Hoffman for his selection as Cadet of the Month. Our Chief, Eric Balcunas had received an appointment to West Point, but finally got the news he was anxiously waiting for, his selection to the US Coast Guard Academy. PO2 Jessica Vance was selected as the only female Cadet nationwide to attend a foreign exchange program to Russia. Jessica will be heading to St Petersburg in July. PO2 Timothy Nasta has been selected to attend the US Air Force Academy summer program, in Colorado Springs. But he and Jessica are both waiting to hear about their applications to the US Coast Guard Academy summer program. LCDR Stewart helped us promote Carolina Rueda and Eric Toler to Petty Officer Third Class. Cadet Brandon Wasicsko was promoted to Seaman Apprentice (temp), upon his completion of the Navy Correspondence Course, “Basic Military Requirements”. We had several new Cadets enroll, and had many more visiting during the month as part of our recruiting efforts.Respectfully Submitted,
