From: LCDR Alan Starr, Commanding Officer,
Team Spruance To: All Hands Subject: Monthly Report VIEW FROM THE BRIDGEJANUARY 2005 The Cadets of Spruance Division returned from the Holiday Break with a new fresh spirit. Discussions were held on the tragedy of the recent devastating Tsunami in south Asia, and how important it is for all of us to be aware of our surroundings wherever we are in public places and to look for emergency exits. The Cadets discussed how they would react in sudden emergency conditions, with lessons learned that awareness and planning are the keys to survival. A special Training Day was held with a two hour solid “PT” workout on Fort Lauderdale Beach with the “Health Colonel”, LCOL Bob Weinstein, USAR Ret, of “Fountain of Youth Fitness”. The event was video taped by the Spanish language Television Network, “Telemundo” who will air it in February. We concluded the day with swimming qualifications at the historic, world famous “Swimming Hall of Fame”, where Olympic swim training is held. The Cadets also traveled down to the Port of Miami, to spend the day on board the USS Leyte Gulf, CG-55. The Command Master Chief set up Damage Control training, and all the Cadets had the opportunity to man the hoses, and put on the Navy’s newest fire fighting ensemble and safety gear. The Commanding Officer welcomed the Cadets on board this mighty warship and recognized them for their commitment, and told them that they represent the future of our Navy.Respectfully Submitted,
