VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE

November 2006

The Cadets of Spruance Division always look forward to the month of November, and the Veterans Day Ceremonies. The first ceremony was with the City of Sunrise. The Color Guard presented Colors; LCDR Starr was recognized as a member of the City’s Veterans Commission. PO3 Ryan McDaniel presented a Veterans Day speech, and the Unit Rifle Drill team performed for the appreciative crowd.

The second ceremony began at 2PM in the City of Tamarac. LCDR Starr was the Master of Ceremonies. The Cadets presented the colors carrying all of our nation’s service flags. The event was held at the Palace theatre at Kings Point with over 500 veterans and families present. That evening the Cadets participated in the American Legion District Commanders Veterans Day dinner, in Ft Lauderdale. On Sunday afternoon the Cadets participated at the Royal British Legion Remembrance Day Service, honoring all of the British and Commonwealth nation’s veterans.

Dr. Jon Kotler made arrangements with Holy Cross Hospital to conduct the Basic Life Saving course for the Cadets. They all received their BLS Certification. PT on the Beach was held with the Health Colonel, and a recruiting open house was held with 8 new prospective Cadets and parents. The Cadets presented Colors at the monthly Ft Lauderdale dinner meeting, where the Navy Element Commander from US Southern Command was the guest speaker.

The Cadets were granted special Liberty for the long Thanksgiving Holiday, and were given special instructions and a direct order by the C.O. to help out in the Galley at home!

Respectfully Submitted,
LCDR Alan Starr, USNSCC
Commanding Officer, Team Spruance
